I'm Jack Riley, a 29-year-old cinematographer and editor with over six years of experience in the wildlife documentary space. For the past two years, I served as the Director of Photography on Kimberley: The Wild North West, an international human-wildlife series broadcast on ABC, ARTE, and Love Nature. Throughout principal photography, I was responsible for delivering high-end wildlife sequences on a tight budget, within limited timeframes, and with minimal crew — All in some of Australia's most remote and challenging environments.
In 2022, I had the privilege of being part of the editing team for the Emmy award-winning Netflix film Puff: Wonders of the Reef.
Whether in rain forest, ocean, or desert environments, I focus on making a broad range of technical camera equipment work in the toughest conditions.
With extensive experience operating long lens rigs, drones, and high-speed cameras like the Phantom and Ember, as well as filming from GSS boat and vehicle rigs and helicopters, I’ve developed the expertise to deliver results in high-stakes situations while managing complex, technically demanding gear.
My background in editing has given me a story-first approach to cinematography. I always make sure I capture everything needed for the sequence as if I were the one editing it (because I often am).
Countless shoots and expeditions in difficult conditions have cultivated a healthy appetite for suffering, I am well-prepared for the demands of fieldwork, and I approach each project with adaptability, respect, and a commitment to bringing my best self.
The natural world is my greatest source of awe, inspiration, and joy. My deepest aspiration is to bottle that reverence for the planet and pass it on to audiences, inspiring a shared appreciation for wildlife and motivating people to care for it.
